Closing the gap as state funding for the lake shrinks.
The funds available to protect Lough Sheelin are becoming ever more squeezed. As a club we have to invest more of our own money into preventing the decline the lake would otherwise suffer – and that money comes from members and supporters like you.
Every euro raised goes back into the lake.
After our meetings with the IFI it has become very clear that the funds available to protect Lough Sheelin are becoming ever more squeezed. As a club we are going to have to invest more of our own funds into trying to prevent the rapid decline Lough Sheelin will suffer if we let this happen.
We are always trying to find new ways of fund raising and to grow our membership base, while keeping our annual subscription as low as possible. The stream enhancement programme carried out over the past sixteen years is paying dividends, with funds raised from a number of annual events invested back into the rehabilitation and enhancement of the rivers within the Lough Sheelin catchment area.
Work like the maintenance and fencing carried out on the Half Carton River – one of the main spawning rivers that feed Lough Sheelin – would not be possible without club subscriptions, donations and competitions.
Ways you can support the work.
Whether you fish Sheelin every week or simply care about Irish wild trout, there is a way for you to help.
From near annihilation to a world-class fishery.
To date the LSTPA has procured and funded over €450,000 with the help of fund raising and grant aid. Every single cent has been put into repairing the damage caused by years of neglect and pollution, and into the enormous task of rehabilitating the streams which are the lifeblood of the lake.
The lake has been brought from near total annihilation to one of the top premier wild brown trout lakes in the world – and this would be totally impossible without the donations and club memberships people pay. Please support us in maintaining Lough Sheelin as one of the top dry fly lakes in the world.

The lake's future depends on its supporters.
Government grants and funds are being squeezed all the time. Everything the LSTPA does is paid for by the people who join, donate and take part.
